Quick Tip - Jeep CJ5 Bikini Top on a Samurai

When I bought my Samurai, it came with a full custom made fastback top, but no bikini top. When summer came around and I needed a bikini top, being the cheap bastard that I can be, I started looking around the shop for something that might work.

I found an old Jeep CJ5 bikini top that I had on my first CJ. It was a little wider than the Samurai, but I figured I could make it work (CJ5s and Samurais share a very close wheelbase and track width, but the CJ bodies are wider).

The front fits into the stock Samurai soft-top channel. The front sides of the top have snap buttons. I used a couple of the male snaps salvaged from the old CJ tub, and screwed them into the inside of the windshield frame.

This top is now known as the "Classic CJ Bikini Top", because of the straps that reach to the back of the tub. I prefer these tops over the so called "Strapless" versions, basically just for the look. In order to use this version, I also salvaged the footman loops from the CJ tub, and screwed them into the rear of the Samurai tub.

Just another neat little idea if you need a bikini top for your Samurai, and just happen across a CJ5 top. It works well, and gives a different look over the Samurai tops.
